DESCRIPTION
Visit the house & the gardens of C.Monet in Giverny, then walk on the footsteps of Van Gogh along the village of Auvers sur Oise thank to our new tour! (Full Day .Around 9 Hours)
GIVERNY
The world-famous gardens at Giverny were created by Monet between 1883 and 1926. In addition to the Japanese water garden, the inspiration for the Water Lilies series, there is also a more formal garden called “Le Clos Normand,” located directly in front of the house. During the spring and summer, when all the flowers are in full bloom, it is a veritable carnival of colors!
During your visit to Giverny you will also be able to visit (unaccompanied) the house where Monet lived, with its collection of Japanese prints, created by Japanese artists including Hiroshige and Hokusai, who provided so much inspiration to the Impressionist painters of the late 19th century.
On the return journey, our Giverny tours stop off at La Roche-Guyon, which offers panoramic views over the Seine valley.
At the top of a cliff are the impressive remains of a 12th century keep, while at its foot lies a 17th century, used by Rommel as his HQ at the end of the Second World War.
We will also take a detour to the little village of Vétheuil to see the house where Monet and his favorite model and first wife Camille lived.
AUVERS SUR OISE
Just 1 hour drive from Giverny, lies the unspoilt village of Auvers sur Oise! Many artists stayed here and painted either the banks of the Oise river or the houses of the village, such as Daubigny (Barbizon school), Pissaro and Cézanne (Impressionnists painters).
Without doubt the one who made Auvers so famous is Vincent Van Gogh, who spent here the 2 last months of his life! He painted in Auvers around 80 works! Among the most famous of his pretty short career (more or less 10 years):
The Church of Auvers, Docteur Gachet’s portrait, Wheatfield with crows…
Discover with your personal tour guide, the path dedicated to those painters along the streets of the village of Auvers ; several museums can be visited too, such as the Guest House where Van Gogh stayed, the museum dedicated to the painter Daubigny or the one dedicated to the « Green Fairy », l’Absinthe (on weekends only)
